Buttermilk Fried Chicken

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. Watkins Seasoning Salt
1 tbsp. Watkins Garlic Granules
1 tbsp. Watkins Onion Granules
1 tbsp. Watkins Black Pepper
2 eggs
4 cups buttermilk
1/3 cup Watkins Original Barbecue
Sauce Concentrate
3 tbsp. Watkins Steak Sauce
1 tbsp. Watkins Spicy Garlic Soy Sauce
1 whole chicken, cut into pieces (or 6 skinless boneless chicken breast halves)
2 cups vegetable oil

In a large shallow dish, combine flour and next four (dry) ingredients. In a separate bowl, beat eggs; whisk in buttermilk and next three (wet) ingredients. Dredge chicken in wet mixture, then in seasoned flour, repeating at least once. Hear oil in large, deep-sided skillet to 375 degrees. Fry chicken in hot oil until golden brown on both sides, about 10 minutes per side.

Lamb with Peas and Tomatoes

2 pounds lamb (or beef) stew meat cut into 1.5 inch pieces
1/4 cup Watkins Garlic & Parsley
Grapeseed Oil
1 tbsp. Watkins Spicy Garlic Soy Sauce
2 tsp. Watkins Provencal Herb Rub
1 tsp. Watkins Lemon Peel
1/2 tsp. Watkins Garlic Granules
1/2 tsp. (or to taste) Watkins Red Pepper Flakes
1 cup dry white wine
1 28 oz. can Italian style tomatoes, drained, crushed
1 10 oz. package frozen peas
Cooked white rice

Season lamb pieces with salt and Watkins Black Pepper. Heat oil in heavy large pot or Dutch oven over high heat. Working in batches, add lamb to pot and sauté until brown, about 4 minutes per batch. Return all lamb and any collected juices to pot. Stir in soy sauce and seasonings; add wine and boil until reduced by 2/3, scraping up browned bits, about 8 minutes. Add tomatoes and return to a boil. Cover; reduce heat to medium low and simmer until meat is tender; about 1 hour 15 minutes (may simmer longer). Add peas and simmer uncovered until cooked through, about 10 minutes. Serve over rice.

Menthol and camphor can control Asian Lady Beetles:

Insect behavior researchers have determined that menthol and camphor both repel the multicolored Asian lady beetles which have become such a nuisance in many parts of North America. Although Watkins Menthol Camphor Relief Mist and Menthol Camphor/Medicated Ointment are not pesticides, both contain menthol and camphor and could help with the household battle against the beetle.

Multicolored Asian lady beetles (Harmonia axyridis) have lived in North America since they were first imported from China in 1916 to help control aphids. This beneficial beetle has been growing to nuisance population levels in many areas of North America, particularly in the eastern US, and is expanding both north and west.

In large numbers they can become problems for homeowners. When the bugs are agitated, they secrete a bright yellow substance with an unpleasant odor that can stain walls and fabric. This stress response protects the beetle from being eaten by birds.

With the discovery that menthol and camphor repel the lady bugs, researchers at the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) are recommending a "push pull" strategy for controlling the bugs. Push them from their over wintering sites in or on your home using menthol and camphor and pull them into traps outside the home. (The ARS even provides free plans for building the traps.)

Spraying Watkins Menthol Camphor Relief Mist on areas where multicolored Asian lady beetles congregate, especially in cracks and crevices that could provide access to the inside of your house, may represent a safe and effective way of discouraging them in addition to their listed uses. Additionally, spraying Menthol Camphor Relief Mist on clothing could keep the beetles from getting a free ride into your home. 

Since Watkins has not formulated these products for direct application on surfaces, we recommend testing them on an inconspicuous area first.
